Before you click out of this email, read
what one mother wrote about respite care:

"A few years ago I realized that declining an offer of assistance was not only unhelpful to me, but was alsodepriving another of baraka, or the opportunity to help a fellow Muslim in need. I always said 'its ok, I got this', if someone offered to help with my daughter's wheelchair or open the door for us, thinking I had to be "Supermom" and take care of my kids all by myself. But I was wrong-

I can't do this all on my own.

People don't offer to help as often as one might think- families like ours might seem intimidating or complicated. But we're not-we're just typical people in atypical circumstances. And those few times someone does offer to help, I gratefully accept-giving us both a moment of kindness to share. I can't stress enough how even little acts of kindness to our family means to us. Bigger, grander gestures of someone volunteering to watch our girls while I go grocery shopping, or go for a physical for myself, arefew and far between unfortunately. But when it does happen, that moment of kindness, that mutually beneficial gift of giving and receiving, that baraka remains for long after in our hearts”
